Houston Texas is absolutely huge as a place for petrochemical imports and exports. Various public and privately operatated terminal stretch inland for over 50 miles.
The Houston Ship Channel has two container ports:
Barbour’s Cut Container Terminals
Bayport Container terminal
Barbour’s Cut is the older terminal, owned by the port, and needs significant upgrades to handle the larger ships. The Federal channel is only 45 ft deep which is also a limitation. This terminal Port has no room to grow, and the Bayport terminal is handling the overflow, however it has significant environmental constraints.
